ISCAR Dear PhD students! We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Second International ISCAR Summer University (II ISCAR SU 2011) on cultural-historical psychology and activity theory: "Theoretical Problems of Cultural-historical Psychology in the Context of Emerging Social Practices" (August 26 – September 1,  2011).

The scientific school of cultural-historical psychology is associated with the names of L.S. Vygotsky, A.N. Leontiev, A.R. Luriya, M.M. Bahtin, D.B. Elkonin, V.V. Davydov and many others, and is presently the center of attention in the international scientific and educational community. The ongoing integration processes confront the leading and up-and-coming scholars with a number of tasks, such as development and correlation of the key theoretical concepts of cultural-historical and activity theory in the works of Russian and foreign scholars, developing a unified conceptual framework, supporting collaborative projects and research.

  • presentations of one’s own research;

Language of the Event - English

Venue
The main events of ISCAR SU 2011 will take place in Moscow State University of Psychology and Education (Moscow, Russia) in a picturesque suburban vacation house “Povedniki” (Russia, Moscow region). Upon request from participants we will organize various Moscow city tours and a trip to St. Petersburg at extra cost.

Application Process
An application in English should be submitted individually and should incorporate one topic of ISCAR SU 2011.

Documents
  1. Description of research (thesis, essay). We will accept for review both ongoing research and detailed description of an IDEA for a theoretical and/or applied research (as separate attachment).
  2. CV (Full name, gender, place of residence, university, research supervisor,  title of Candidate’s dissertation and it’s current status, place of work - if any, any other related information). Please provide also information about scholarships and/or about the funding of your research project/PhD Dissertation as well as information about participation in other PhD Events/ Conferences/ Workshops.
  3. Motivational letter, describing your experience in acquaintance with cultural-historical psychology, your interests and expectations with regard to participating in SU, your desire to take part in the work of ISCAR SU 2011 (as attachment together with CV, not more than 1 page).

Requirements to Format of the Research Description
  • font: Times New Roman; 12 pt.; interval 1,5;
  • text volume: 2–3 pages;
  • the cover page should indicate: topic of ISCAR SU 2011, full name, title, full name of research supervisor and his/her academic degree;
  • list of sources and literature should be given in the end of the text.

The participant selection will be based on a combination of the following criteria:
  1. Quality and Relevance of PhD project
  2. Geographical Origin/Disability/ Gender/ Socio-economic Resources (we will ensure a reasonable distribution of participants regarding gender/ geographic origin/ socio-economic resources)
  3. First come - first served!

Possible number of participants – 24

Applications which do not conform to the above requirements and are submitted after the deadline will not be accepted for review!
